in Commemoration of 80th. Birthday

Phase-2  :  Amsterdam - Budapest Cruise (Day-2  Kinderdijk)

On the 2nd. day of the cruise (8/13), the ship sailed to Kinderdijk during the night and arrived in the morning.

There were hundreds of windmills in Netherland hundreds years ago but about 35 are left now in Kinderdijk. When we were there, all windmills were not working but one, which I believe is operationg just to demonstrate to the visitors. Windmills were primarily to pump the water of canals to North Sea to protect the country from sea water flowing in. In addition, some mills were used to grind flours.

In front of the windmills in Kinderdijk.

Visitors at the Information Center where they can ride cruise ship to see windmills closer.

At the windmill operating. Look at the huge wood carved shoes!! These wood shoes are also famous shoes of Netherland because they have been used in old times as it is easiest to wash and clean from muds.
