가라앉아,

오후늦게
부터는
12-18MPH로
갈아앉아,
걸을때
좀
비실거리기는
해도
큰
불편은
없읍니다.
저기압이
북쪽에
있어,
선장이
그것을
피하려고
그런것
같은데,
내일
아침에
기착
예정이든
Dutch Harbor를
거치지
않고
남쪽으로
막바로
일본을
향해
항해중입니다.
덕택에
8일
하고도
반일을
Non-stop 항해할
예정이라

더
심심해졌읍니다.

기다리고
있는데,

남았읍니다.

While
we were sailing from Vancouver on 9/27 until we came out of Glacier Bay on
10/1, we were sailing between lands and it was very quiet sailing without
much wind. However, the ship is now sailing the Pacific Ocean and the wind
became much stronger. In the early morning of 10/2, the wind was strong (30
- 40 MPH) and the rolling of the ship was strong. However, it became weaker
since late afternoon of yesterday to 12-18 MPH and it became much easier to
walk around. Because captain is by-passing Dutch Harbor to avoid strong wind
there, we have to make 8.5 days straight non-stop sailing now and it will be
really boring every day. I am counting the days left and there are still 7.5
days to go to arrive Kushiro, Hokkaido, Japan. The temperature is low
(10-11C) as the water temperature is low.

Today
is the 4th. day since we started to sail Pacific Ocean getting out of
Glacier Bay National Park. In the early morning of 10/2, the first day in
the ocean, the wind was strong but it has quieted down to 7-8 MPH by the
afternoon. However, it has returned to 30-40 MPH for last 2 days which
seemed to be very normal in the ocean. As we are more and more used to this
much of wind, we didn't have any problem of sea sickness at all.

있읍니다.

아직도

하지만,

편해졌읍니다.
Meantime, the local standard time have been changed by one hour everyday, 4
hours behind from Calif. time now. However, as it is changing slowly day by
day, we didn't have any time change problem. As expected, our body is
adjusting very well to this daily change. 2 days later on 10/6, we will
cross the International Date Line and will jump from 10/6 to 10/8. 10/7 will
be disappeared. Therefore, we expected 8.5 days of boring ocean sailing at
first, but it will be rather 7.5 days of boring sail. Great !!
The
temperature is maintaining 9-10C cool weather. But it went up to 15C today
and it was not cold at outside. We are used to 30-40 MPH wind and we can
walk easier now in spite of rolling of the ship.

훨씬
넘겼읍니다.
The
very next morning after we left Vancouver, the weather was very clear days and we could
see wonderful sunrise in the morning. However, ever since, it was always
cloudy with dense fog mostly and with some rains too most of times.
Therefore we could not see sunrise/sunset everyday. However, last evening,
it was very clear finally and we could see beautiful and great sunset as
shown here. I expected clear morning today too but it was again heavily
clouded. The Sunrise photo has gone away. Now, we have traveled more than
2,500 miles, more than half of the whole sailing.

For last 2 days, we passed low pressure zone and wind was relatively strong
at 30-40 MPH. If we visited Dutch Harbor as planned, probably we had
stronger wind. According to the weather chart, there is a stronger low
pressure around Dutch Harbor. It seems we have passed this low pressure zone
and the wind became weaker at 10-20 MPH, mostly around 15 MPH. As we
approaches to Asian continent, I think there is a good chance we will not
face any stronger wind but will become weaker perhaps. The temperature might
be also warmer as the Hokkaido, Japan is in the south than Alaska. Today,
the cold temperature was gone and it went up to 15-16C.

We have
just passed the International Date Line and the date became 10/8 from 10/6.
10/7 has disappeared and we are now in the same date as Korea. We will
arrive Kushiro, Hokkaido, Japan only 2.5 days later at 08:00 AM on 10/10.
For last 5 days, standard time has been changed every day and we are now 6
hours later than California. We will be in Korean Time Zone in 2 days and we
are adjusting to time change very well as expected.

As we
passed the International Date Line, Kushiro of Hokkaido, Japan started to
show up in the map. Wind is mild at around 15 MPH but the temperature
dropped to 11C unexpectedly. We have traveled more than 3,600 miles now and
we might be traveled approximately 4,000 miles by the time we arrive
Yokohama. I am so glad we have only 2 nights to go to end this boring sail.

Tried
a photo of Sunrise as the weather is clear this morning. However,
couldn't take Sunrise picture from the sea horizon because of low clouds.

한국사람이 서너가족 타고있고, 중구인은 많이 타고 있읍니다. 그런데 일본까지 가는 이배에 이상하게도 일본인은 하나도 없읍니다.
There
are 3-4 Korean families in this ship with many Chinese families. However,
there is no Japanese at all in this ship sailing to Japan. Strange !!

같습니다.

Now,
there is only one day left to arrive Kushiro in Hokkaido, Japan to complete
this boring sail. What I have felt during this cruising is it is really
boring sail with nothing to enjoy. I felt I would rather take flights even
though I can not smoke. I didn't like their stupid crazy rule banning
smoking at balcony, though nobody will know if I smoke in balcony. However,
I walked 100m, 200m for round trip, to smoking area always to smoke, as it
was a good exercise and could get a coffee on the way. This have resulted to
walk 4km a day everyday.
오늘
10/10 중국인의 쌍십절 날 아침 7:00 AM에 예정보다 한시간
빨리 드디어 Kushiro에 도착했읍니다. 이제
지루했든 8일간의 계속 항해도 드디어 끝났고, 앞으로
3일간의 일본 항해가 끝나면, 드디어 Cruise도
끝나서, 한국으로 가게 됩니다.
Kushiro는
북해도의 4번째로 큰 도시이나, 인구는
175,000이랍니다. 일본의 최북단 동쪽에 위치하여,
미국을 왕래하는 모든 배가 지나가서 그런지, 도시도 상당히 정돈이
잘되있고, 무엇보다 길이름의 표시밑에는 반듯이 영어로 표기되어 있어,
어려운 일본말 발음을 쉽게할수 있었읍니다. 이번
Cruise에서는 네번의 지상관광이 예정되어 있었는데, Alaska의
Ketchikan 에서의 관광이 취소되고, 내일의 이곳
북해도의Hakodate에서의 관광도 희망자가 적어 취소한다는 연락이 와서,
결국 16일간의 항해중, Alaska의
Juneau와 함께 오늘 이곳 Kushiro가 두번째 지상관광이
되겠읍니다.
Today, we
arrived Kushiro finally at 07:00 AM, about an hour earlier than schedule.
Finally, really boring continuous sail for 8 days is over and we will be in
Korea only 3 days later.
Kushiro is
4th. largest city of Hokkaido with 175,000 population. It is located eastern
part of most north of Japan. It was very well maintained city, maybe,
because it is a city most ships sailing to U.S.A. stops here. I was
impressed by clean and clear road signs in Chinese characters with English
underneath. We had 4 excursions during this trip but it was cancelled in
Ketchikan at the east and will be cancelled in Hakodate tomorrow as not
enough people have applied which resulted only 2 excursions during the trip
of 16 days. This Kushiro today is the 2nd. excursion after Juneau in Alaska
more than 10 days ago.
오늘은 아침
8:00 AM부터 일본의 이민국 직원이 20명 이상 배에 올라와
천여명의 승객들의 일본 입국심사를 했읍니다. 한사람당 5분도
안결렸지만, 워낙 인원이 많다보니 한시간 이상이 걸렸읍니다.
그래서 9시에 떠나려든 지상관광이 한시간이 지연되어,
10시가 다 되어 떠날수 있었읍니다. 오늘 우리와 함께 지상관광을
한 사람수는 거이 100명으로 관광뻐스 3대에
나누어타고 관광을 하여, 모르긴 해도 지상관광으로는 최대규모가 아니었나 싶습니다.
(그런데 내일은 희망자가 없어 취소 한다네요. hi hi)
오늘의
Excursion Tour (지상관광)은 네곳을 들러 무려 5시간을 돌아다녔는데. 앞서 말한대로 출발이 한시간 늦어지는 바람에 점심을
한시가 넘어 먹었읍니다. hi hi.
This
morning, more than 20 immigration officers came to the ship from early 8:00
AM. It took less than 5 min. for each passenger but it took more than an
hour to go through immigration process as there were too many passengers.
Therefore, our departure for the excursion tour was delayed by about an hour
and we left the ship at around 10:00 AM. There were about 100 sightseers and
it required 3 tour buses to handle them.
Today,
we visited 4 places and it took more than 5 hours. As the departure was
delayed, we had to have lunch after 1:00 PM.
제일먼저
찾아간곳이 濕原國立公園으로, 북해도에는 濕地帶가 많아서 습지대에서 자라는 특유한 나무나 식물이 잘 자란답니다. 전망대라고 해서
1km이상을 걸어서 들어가 보았는데, 여기서도 나 같이 식물에 무식한 사람은 그나무가 그나무고 별로 볼것도 없고, 비가와서 미끄러운 길을
1km이상을 걷느라고 고생만 했읍니다. hi hi.
The first place we visited was the Wet
Land National Park as there are so many wet lands in Hokkaido. We walked
more than 1km to look around but, again, I don't have much knowledge about
plants and I had just hard time walking slippery roads.
그다음에 찾아 간곳이 “鶴公園”. 별난 종자라는데, 내가 보기에는 그저 白鶴인데, 그근처에만 서식하는 특종이랍니다. 학 수십마리를 놓고
[학공원]이라고 관광지였읍니다. 찾아오는 사람도 적지않고, 돈을 내고 들어가는 유료공원인데, 초입에 있는 전시관만 보고 깊숙히
걸어들어가는 일행에서 빠저 전시관에 있다가 나왔읍니다. 일본인들은 이 학을 丹頂(Tancho)라고 한답니다.
The next place we visited was a Crane
Park. There about 30 cranes as shown in picture and they said they are rare
kind of Crane. As I was tired, we just stayed at the entrance with displays
and did not go into the park.
이 학공원을 끝내니 벌써 오후 한시. 거기서 찾아간곳이 유명하다는 魚市場 Fish Market이었읍니다. 엄청 큰 건물이 모조리 해산물
뿐으로, Fresh한 해산물을 좋아하는 일본인들의 식성이 나타나드군요. 그속에 있는 상점이 몇백개는 될듯, 즉석에서 요리도 해주고,
사시미에 스시에 곗살에 신선도를 자랑하는 곳이었읍니다. 우리는 큰 계 다리 7-8개가 들어있는 한봉지 곗살을 둘이서 점심으로 먹고 일금
5,000 yen을 냈읍니다. (약 $45) 맛도 좋고 신선하고 그것으로 배도 부르고…. 먹을 만 했읍니다. hi hi.
When we left this Crane Park, it was
already 1:00PM. Next stop was a very famous fish market. Whole huge building
was occupied by so many fresh fish shops Japanese loves. They were not only
selling the fresh fishes but served fish foods. We had very fresh fish food
lunch there.
거기서 약 한시간 점심시간을 갖인 다음에 마지막으로 간 곳이 시립박물관이었읍니다. 여기에는 Kushiro시 근처에 사는 각종 동물들의
박제가 잘 전시되어 있었고, 재미있는것은 이곳 북방에 살든 (지금도 많이 사는) “아이누”족들의 유적들이 많이 전시되어 있었고, 유별난것은
2차대전 중에 일본군이 사용하든 무기가 아닌 옷이나 일상용품등, 우리에게는 익숙하지 않은 재미있는것들이 전시되어 있었읍니다.
“아이누”족은 미국의 인디안들 같이 이곳에만 살든 민족인데, 요새는 일본정부가 아이누족의 특징을 없애고 일본인으로 동화시키려고 아이누어의
사용도 금지하고 그들의 풍습도 못하게 한답니다. 미국과는 다르게, 일본인 특유의 사상인것 같습니다.
After spending about an hour at fish
market, our last stop was City Museum. There were displays of animals living
around Kushiro and various items used by Ainu people. Ainu was a tribe lived
here (still living) just like an American Indians in U.S.A.. Recently,
Japanese government forbids Ainu language and tries to make them Japanese.

이렇게 네곳을 돌고 나니 오후 3시가 넘어 배로 돌아왔읍니다. 하루종일 걸었드니, 녹초가 되어 밤에는 잘 자고, 오늘은 Hakodate를
거쳐, 모래는 드디어 Yokohama로 향합니다. Hakodate도 원래는 지상관광이 계획되어 있었는데, 희망자가 없어 취소 되었읍니다.
원래 Kushiro는 관광지가 아니고 항구도시라 별로 기대가 없었으나, 첫번째 국립공원이 그나마도 기대이하로 볼것이 없이 고생만 했고,
나머지 세곳은 그런대로 재미 있었으며, 특히 마지막 시립박물관이 볼만 했었읍니다.
When we finished this tour, it was
already 3:00 PM. I was really tired and could sleep very well in the night.
We will leave Kushiro this evening, visit Hakodate tomorrow and will sale to
Yokohama, our final destination, tomorrow evening. Kushiro is not a city for
sightseeing but a port and I didn't expect much. However, it was somewhat
interesting city and we enjoyed City Museum very much.
다행히 배의 흔들림은 그렇게 심하지
않아,
멀미는 전혀 느끼지도 못했으나, 거이 만 8일간을
보이는것이라고는 바다와 하늘뿐, 그것도 안개에 짙게 흐린 날씨에 가랑비에...
더구나 기온이 섭씨10도 근처인 날은 추워서 밖에 있지도 못하겠고….
지루하기 그지없는 항해라 다시는 하고 싶지 않네요. 처음에 계획할
때에는 그까짓것 못할것 없다고 생각했는데, 막상 8일간을
계속하니까 보통 고생이 아니었읍니다.
시차는
9/27에 Vancouver를 떠나 이틀 후인 9/29에
Ketchikan에서 한시간이 늦어졌고, 그후 10/3에
태평양으로 나온 후에는 7일간을 연속으로 매일 한시간씩 늦어져,
일본에 도착할 때까지 8시간이 늦어졌지만,
워낙 하루에 한시간씩 천천히 변하니까 시차 조절은 예상한대로 힘 안들이고 저절로 되어,
이것이 유일하게 덕을 본것인것 같습니다.
Fortunately, the ship didn't have much
rolling though wind was strong sometimes. However, it was really terribly
boring sail for 8 days. All we could see was fogs, dark clouds, water, light
rains........ Temperature dropped to lower than 10C. It was expected from
the beginning but 8 days of continuous sailing was really terrible things to
do.
We had the first 1 hour time change on the
3rd. day after we left Vancouver and the standard times have been changed
everyday from 10/3, 8 times in total until we arrived Japan. (8 hours change
from Vancouver to Japan) As expected, we could adjust to the time change
easily day by day which was the great benefit of cruising.
이번
cruise에서 제일 고생한것은 Internet입니다.
돈을 내래서 돈을 낸것 까지는 좋았는데 (처음에 500분
8.5시간 : $175, 다시 제2차로
1,000분 17시간 : $250,
총 $$425. 이중 $100은
까까주어 $325 지불), 속도가 무진장 느려,
Internet website에 연결하느라 기다리는 시간이 전체 이용시간의 80-90%는
되었읍니다. 완전한 낭비였지요. 총
25.5시간 분의 인터넷 시간을 샀는데, 하루에 너댓번 들어가서
잠간 현항파악만 하고 나왔는데, 25시간이 모두 날라가,
하루 평균 한시간 반 이상(25.5/16=1.6)을 날렸읍니다.
그런데 문제는 그것 뿐이 아닙니다. 갖고간
Notebook Computer에 e-mail을 연결하려니 잘
연결되든 computer에 3-4일 후에 느닷 없이
낯선 computer라 암호를 Smartphone에
messenger로 보낼테니 그 암호를 입력하라는 것입니다. 그런데
Smartphone을 Airplane Mode로하여
Roaming을 안하도록하고, 이배의 WiFi에
연결하라는데, WiFi에 연결이 되자마자 끊어져서 다시연결하려하고,
그래서 연결이 되면 즉시 또 끊어져서 다시 연결을 시도하고…..이것을
계속 반복하고 연결이 안됩니다.
그래서 전화기를 이 배의
Internet 연결을 전담 하는곳에 갖어가서 전문가에게 보였드니,
한참을 이리 저리 해보드니 어딘가 비밀 코드가 있어 WiFi연결을 방지하고 있는데 자기도
모르겠답니다. 이놈의 Smartphone은 전문가도
모르게 만들어 놨으니 Android라는 Operating Supply를
만든 Google의 software engineer는
뭣하는 애들인지? 결국 Smartphone은
WiFi 연결을 포기할수 밖에 없었고, 그러다 보니
Notebook의 Microsoft msn.com software engineer와
Google의 Android software engineer와
이배의 Valendam-Guest라는 WiFi network의
software engineer와 누구 잘못인지는 몰라도, 서로
죽이 맞어, 항해 도중 내내 e-mail은 쓸수 없는
불상사가 일어났읍니다. 별수 없이 서울에 가서 우리 아들네 집에서 거기 WiFi에
연결하여 e-mail을 쓸수 밖에 없겠읍니다.
그뿐
아니라,
표준시간대가
바뀌어
시간을
바꾸려니
그것도
바꾸지
못하게
되어있네요.
스스로
바뀌게
되어
있는
모양인데,
Verizon이
안들어오니
시간이
안바뀝니다.
이것은

stopped working for e-mail. It was asking a new code for e-mail which they
will send to my smartphone. However, my smartphone could not receive the
message. I went to the office and asked to look at my smartphone to a
computer expert. She tried for more than 10 min. and said she doesn't know
why? I could not use e-mail thereafter, until I arrive Japan.
