WILLY'S FIRST BIRTHDAY  :  Here's my oldest brother Willy on his first birthday.

Seated behind him are his two grandmothers (paternal on the left, maternal on the right). In Korea, a boy's first birthday is a very special event, and he is treated like a little king, as you can see by his decorative outfit. The food and gifts that are laid out before him are supposed to tell his future. Whichever object he reaches for first determines what kind of luck he will have: if he reaches for money, he will be wealthy; if he reaches for a book, he will become a scholar (which in olden times was a very respected profession); if he reaches for cakes and fruits, he will never go hungry -- he will always have plenty to eat; if he reaches for string, he will have a long life

Of course, usually parents tried to induce the baby to reach for what they wanted...
