The original plan
was to drive home back in two and half days. However, since the
sightseeing was over in one day, they decided to drive back in two days to
arrive home one day earlier. They drove to Portland, Oregon on the 5th.
day (6/20) and back to home on 6/21 from there, though they were quite
long drives (630 miles on 6/20 and 675 miles on 6/21 for almost 11 hours
of driving on both days.).
When they
approached to the Portland, Interstate Highway 84 was running along the
Columbia River, which was the border line seperating Washington and Oregon
states with great view of the river for more than an hour.
The major
objective of this trip was rather driving than sightseeing originally. The
Glacier National Park was selected as the destination as they had to have
some direction any way without much expectation, but just because they have
never been there. However, it was a great trip and the park was beutiful
place worthwhile to visit. As they drove unpopulated area with straight
roads mostly without many cars and high 70-75 mph speed limits most
places, they really enjoyed the driving as well as the great scenery of
the Glacier National Park, far greater than expected. They drove total of
2,977 miles in 6 days, equivalent to the distance of San Francisco - New
York.
