The last day (the third day - Thurs. 7/14) was simple and straightforward.  Jane and D.I. drove home along a succession of highways : 97 - 5 -505 - 80 - 680. On the way, they passed the snow-covered Mt. Shasta and the nearby Shasta Lake.  Jane drove for about an hour on the third day.  The rest of the time, D. I. drove (a total of 1,147 miles or 1,835 km).

Perhaps because they didn't expect much from this trip when they started, the trip was very enjoyable to Jane and D.I. All they had wanted to do was to escape the Bay Area heat, drive up the cooler Pacific Coast and check out Crater Lake. However, except for the difficult, curvy driving on the first day, it turned out to be a much more enjoyable trip than they had expected, with quite a lot of beautiful scenery.
